A profession for the fourth industrial revolution

The technical variety in this profession will fulfil every wish. You will, among other things, be able to handle workpieces manually, assemble and programme modules (e.g. electro-pneumatic control systems), check systems for faults, install, commission and configure hardware and software components, draw up work and operating instructions and advise users and customers.

How does the training programme work?

The school-based course in automation technology lasts three years and includes preparation for the technical college entrance qualification. At the beginning of the 3rd year of training, you will complete a 7-week work placement in a company of your choice, where you can apply the knowledge you have acquired in real-life situations and gain initial experience.

You also have the opportunity to attend further internships or themed projects to further optimise your starting position for your career entry. With the state final examinations in the training specialisations and general subjects, you will acquire a recognised vocational qualification and the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences.

Is the profession right for you?

Ideally, you have the following skills for automation technology:

  • An interest in electronics, mechanics and IT
  • Manual dexterity and diligence
  • Technical and mathematical understanding
  • Logical and spatial thinking
